Description:
Work off that extra serving of siu mai you had at Fortune or work up
your your appetite beforehand by providing some much needed organizing
and spring
cleaning at the Falls Church Community Services Council's
food pantry. Help is greatly needed with inspecting and sorting
canned/packaged food donations, wiping down shelves, and some filing.
The Falls Church Community Services Council provides a variety of
assistance to area residents through a network of volunteers from
member churches in the Falls Church area.
For info on the Dim Sum part, contact Rose Lee at 703-509-8620(cell). Please rsvp to rsvp@ocanova. org by March 30 for the dim sum and and to indicate if you want to volunteer for the Before Dim Sum or the Then Some shift.
The Organization of Chinese Americans, Northern Virginia Chapter (OCA-NOVA) Service Corps is a program to 1) provide a community service opportunity each and every month for volunteers, 2) promote the involvement of Asian-Pacific Americans in community service, and 3) enhance the perception of our community in mainstream American.
OCA-NOVA Service Corps volunteers have been giving back to the community for over 10 years! This will be OCA-NOVA Service Corps 122nd month of volunteer service.

Volunteers will help check people in, put out t-shirts, signs and program flyers. Also, a few volunteers will be needed to go around and mark out the walk circuit, and maybe help clean up and put away chairs, etc afterwards.
On-site coordinator will be Yasue Redden, yasuer@cs.com.
The Cherry Blossom Freedom Walk (4K Walk) was originally started to support the
National Japanese American Memorial Foundation (NJAMF) to raise awareness and
funds to build the memorial. Now that the memorial is built, the Walk supports
the NJAMF's on-going education program. This year’s Keynote Speaker will be
Chaplain James Yee, former U.S. Army Captain. The Japanese American Veterans
Association will also be joining the program with a special honor guard and
there will be remarks by former U.S.Secretary of Transportation Norman Mineta
and by Japanese Ambassador Ryozo Kato. To learn more about the Freedom Walk,

Aftwards volunteers are welcome to stay for the cultural entertainment at
11:15am. Cultural entertainment will include Japanese Taiko drummers, Japanese
Folk Dancing and musical performances.
